My great mentor and founder of Baron Hats, Eddie
Baron, used to always say to me in his wonderfully
forceful Spanish accent: "¡Deje el sombrero hablar
para sí mismo!" ("Let the hat speak for
itself!"). I learned a great deal from the Master,
but I must say, in most cases, I've not been good
about the "not speaking" part. If you read
most of my hat descriptions online, you'll see that
no matter how good the hat, I still tend to "speak"
like a gushing father! But this time, I'm going to
try and just let "The Swashbuckler" tell
its own story.
This is a deceivingly difficult hat to make. Working
this highest grade ultra thick "naturellement
traité" leather into an open crown to create
an authentic pirate hat in the style of Johnny Depp's
"Capt. Jack Sparrow" was one of my biggest
challenges ever. You have to hand work this baby like
sculptor with a block of marble!
But like a great sculpture, if you stand your ground
and give it your all, the results are spectacular,
and timeless! The hat either looks just right, or
not at all. So I'm particularly proud of how
this came out, right down to the rawhide attache
de bouton "X" on both sides. The "Swashbuckler"
is made to last for years, on the open sea, and while
ravishing and pillaging ashore! This is the real thing!
And since pirates like to give their hats a bit of
their individual personality, I've built heavy-gauge
wire into the binding so you can form it to your liking.
Please
allow an extra week when ordering, since these are
truly hand-tooled custom made classics... but believe
me... they're worth the wait!
Please note: The color of your hat will be just like
the original. However, because of the many variances
in computer monitors, the color you see on your screen
may be slightly different that the actual custom made
hat. Rest assured, you are getting the original hat
in the original color!
