 Kevin
Costner gave us perhaps the greatest
"epic" Western since the days of
John Ford, with his auteur masterpiece,
"Dances With Wolves". Then there
was a period of, well... frankly, uneven productions.
However, he has redeem himself, and returned
to his grand form some 14 years later with a
more personal, intimate and mature work, the
recently released "Open Range", a
bittersweet love-letter to an all too quickly vanishing
America. In a smack-on metaphor to our
modern era, the two main characters,
cattlemen "Charley" (Costner),
and
"Boss" (Robert Duvall) are
forced to test their almost instinctual
values of truth and loyalty against the
blinding power of fear, greed and
corruption, a force that then, as now, seems
to be winning all the battles, and may end
up winning the whole damn war, not only because
the evil men are
the one's who started it, but because they invented
it in the first place. Baron Hats, who
has worked both with Costner and Duvall on
many of their productions, was so excited by
the message of "Open Range" that
in its honor, they've created two
special hats,
inspired by this "torch song" to a
mythical time and place, and to values we seem to hold
dear, but can no longer embrace. Both hats are crafted with the
rugged simplicity of their ideals. And like
the men themselves, these beautifully elegant
hats make a quiet statement more powerful
than the guns that defend the men who
wore them.

"THE
CHARLEY"
The
"Charley" is created with a
"Summit- peaked" crown and deep
"saddle-roll" shaped brim. Its
shape gives the sense of someone striving to climb
up to search for something grander,
something to believe in, with a unbending
determination more powerful than life
itself. The hatband is hand-wrapped with a
four-cord leather. The hat ordered will be made with
a special hand-brushed leather. However we
can make it exactly like the production hat
by aging it with our special process for
an additional charge). "The

exclusive 200XXX
100% Beaver.

 "THE
BOSS"
A
more classic style, "The Boss"
is topped with a strong conic-pinched
crown, shaped with an open prairie-wave
brim. Its almost tranquil form
stands for an older generation, which posses
a maturity with
little to prove, as if their life
experience itself has become their own soundless
badge of honor. As a final key-stroke, the
hatband is made of a single leather strap,
back-tied. (Note: The hat pictured
has been aged. The hat ordered will be made with
a special hand-brushed leather.
